With Much Gratitude ...

The Jenna Foundation is grateful to count so many fine organizations and businesses in our region as partners in our mission to build safer communities.

This was once again made clear during the week of April 5th when our foundation was supported by two successful fund-raisers. On April 7th & 8th, the
Nothing But Noodles restaurant at Marshall's Plaza in DeWitt donated 15% of every guest check submitted with an event flyer, resulting in more than $300 in proceeds going to support our Mentors for Jenna program. The restaurant also donated gift cards towards raffle prizes and the foundation was represented by an information table including turtle balloons for the kids! A special thank-you goes, in particular, to restaurant manager and co-owner Patrick Hummel for his support and professionalism in making this event happen.

"A Walk to End Violence" was held on behalf of The Jenna Foundation by the
Zeta Beta Tau fraternity, Eta Gamma Chapter at SUNY Oswego, on Saturday, April 11th. The walk-a-thon event took place at the Oswego Junior High School track, and, despite a bright but chilly day, more than $1000 in proceeds was raised to support our programming, with many thanks to the numerous area businesses, walkers and especially the fraternity brothers who dedicated so much time and effort to support non-violence programming in their area and raise awareness about crime statistics and the services available to crime victims. Our thanks go to organizing fraternity brother Justin Stosuy for his personal investment in this event, and to our loyal, ongoing volunteers from the UPS Community Foundation, who once again made so much happen "behind the scenes."

Plaza restaurant for their support.

ARTICLE HIGHLIGHT

"Executive Notes" by Janice Grieshaber, Executive Director

It hardly seems possible that, as of November 6th, 2007, Jenna had been gone for ten long years. It seems like yesterday. It seems like a hundred years ago. And now, this year, we realize the tenth year of the mentoring program established in her name and feel the same shock. How can that much time have passed? How can we have seen that many children play our games and learn our lessons – we hope.

We hope. It’s all about hope. There is no way to know how many children and how many mentors actually absorb the messages of the lessons. We can only hope that they do and that we change the thinking and thus the lives of some of the children who are mentors and mentees. That’s our goal, to change everyone involved in this program, even the adults who provide oversight.
